P C Mustafa – An Entrepreneur Who Failed In Class 6 Built A ₹100 Crore Company “Id Fresh Food”

P C Mustafa is and Indian entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of iD Fresh Food, food products company in India.

Today, ID Fresh Food reaches not only homes in more than 8 Indian states but is also exported in Dubai.

Today with the batter, the company sells 2,000 packets of coriander and tomato chutney, 200,000 parathas, and 40,000 chapatis, a day.

iD Fresh Food employed more than 3000 younger to feed millions of Indians preservative-free and healthy Dosa and Idli batter including coriander and tomato chutney, chapatis, and parathas on a daily basis.

 

P C Mustafa Early Life

PC Mustafa was born in a poor family in the Chennalode, remote village of Wayanad district of Kerala, a beautiful state of south India.

His father was a daily wageworker and doing a coolie job. His mother was uneducated. He grew up in a very poor family and the small village of Kerala that had only one school.

His father always dreamed to make his children educated. Mustafa ended up doing a coolie job at age 10 to improve his family income.

 

Education & Career

Mustafa was an average student and good at maths. He had to walk miles for his school. He dropped out the school for some reason.

He lost interest in going to school failing in class 6 and joined his father as a daily wageworker.

However, later Mustafa went back to school. He had to sit with his juniors and to his teacher’s surprise, Mustafa topped in class 7th and in class 10th.

His father had no money for his higher education. Mustafa was one among 15 students who were offered free meals and free stay at the hostel at Farooq College in Kozhikode.

Mustafa was weak in English. A good friend of Mustafa translates every lecture for him. Mustafa ranked No 63 in the engineering entrance exam in the state.

Mustafa got admission at the Regional Engineering College. He pursued a degree in computer science from the National Institute of Technology Calicut.

 

The foundation stone

After doing engineering from NIT in 1995, Mustafa worked for Motorola with a salary of Rs 15,000. Motorola sent him to Ireland, He also worked some time for Manhattan Associates.

The he joined Citi bank, Dubai, with a salary of ₹1 lakh. He also worked with many Multinational Corporations in Europe and the Middle East.

He got married to Sajna, an interior designer in 2000, and has three sons now aged 16, 13, and 9. Mustafa returned in 2003 to Bengaluru with a saving of ₹15 lakh.

After working for many years, Mustafa developed interest in Business Management and got admission at The Indian Institutes of Management – IIM-Bangalore.

Getting a new idea, while studying at the Indian Institutes of Management, IIM Bangalore he started a Dosa and Idli batter manufacturing company named “ID Fresh” with just ₹25000 investment along with his cousins.

In 2007, after graduating from IIM-Bangalore, Mustafa joined “iD Fresh” as the CEO in charge and operate the marketing and finance department.

 

How did they do this? Entrepreneurial Journey

With just a sale of 10 packets of one kilogram Dosa and Idli batter per day in 2005, to 100 packets a day ID fresh has reached cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mangaluru, Pune, and Dubai.

In 2007, after graduating from IIM-Bangalore, Mustafa joined “iD Fresh” as the CEO in charge and operate marketing and finance department.

Today ID fresh produce around 80,000 kg in their plant with the total investment of around Rs 6 crore and revenue of more than ₹110 crore.

According to TiE Chennai, The ID Fresh Food was 1000 crore brand. His business is supplying Dosa and Idli and about to become a billion-dollar brand.

 

What is ID Fresh Food?

P C Mustafa and his four cousins – Shamsudeen TK, Jafar TK, Abdul Nazer, and Noushad TA who used to sell Idli and Dosa on the street founded the company in 2006.

His cousins started it from 550 square feet under the brand name ‘ID’ – for Idly, Dosa and delivered on a scooter.

ID Fresh Food is one of the leading food company that is providing several flavors of Dosa and Idli including Ragi Idli/Dosa batter, Malabar Parota, Rice Rava Idli batter, and Whole Wheat & Oats Dosa.

Seeing business growth PC Mustafa invested six lacks for more machines and new land. Soon his business was becoming more popular. He invested more than 40 lakhs in 2008.

He shifted ID Fresh Food in the Hoskote Industrial area Bangalore. He decided to start a business in other countries.

Today, iD Fresh products are sold in more than 20,000 stores across seven cities of India including Mangalore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Mysore, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Their main manufacturing unit currently operates in a 15,000 square feet space in Bengaluru.
